The New M4 Tunnels have been officially opened to traffic on 13 July 2019 to complete Stage 1 of Australia’s largest road infrastructure project, WestConnex.
Stretching three lanes each way between Homebush and Haberfield, the 5.5 km long New M4 Tunnels will double the capacity of the corridor, allow motorists to skip 22 sets of traffic lights and reduce travel times for the people of Western Sydney.
In December 2015, Fulton Hogan Egis O&M Pty Ltd (FHEOM) was awarded the contract for the operation and maintenance of WestConnex. FHEOM is a jointly owned subsidiary of Egis Projects Asia Pacific and Fulton Hogan Industries.
FHEOM has completed all pre-operations activities to achieve operational readiness and the successful commencement of operation and maintenance (O&M) of the M4 Tunnels, contributing to the safety of motorists and the reliability of the infrastructure.
In 2020, FHEOM will commence O&M of Stage 2, comprising the existing M5 East and the New M5.
